1 빌라도는 안으로 들어가서 부하들을 시켜 예수를 데려다가 매질하게 하였다.2 병사들은 가시나무로 왕관을 엮어 예수의 머리에 씌우고 자홍색옷을 입혔다.3 그리고 예수앞에 다가서서 ≪유대사람의 왕 만세!≫ 하고 소리치면서 그의 뺨을 때렸다.4 빌라도는 다시 밖으로 나와서 유대사람에게 이렇게 말하였다. ≪그를 너희앞에 끌어내오겠다. 내가 그에게서 아무런 혐의도 찾아내지 못했다는 것을 너희도 이제 보면 알 것이다.≫5 예수께서는 가시관을 머리에 쓰시고 자홍색옷을 걸치고 밖으로 나오셨다. 빌라도는 사람들에게 예수를 가리켜 보이며 ≪자, 이 사람이다.≫ 하고 말하였다.6 대제사장들과 경비병들은 예수를 보자마자 ≪십자가에 못박으시오. 십자가에.≫ 하며 큰소리로 웨쳤다. 그러자 빌라도는 ≪그러면 데려다가 너희의 손으로 십자가에 못박아라. 나는 그에게서 아무런 죄도 찾아내지 못하였다.≫라고 말하였다.7 유대사람들은 또다시 ≪우리에게는 률법이 있습니다. 그 률법대로 하면 그 사람은 자기가 하나님의 아들이라고 했으니 죽어 마땅합니다.≫라고 대꾸하였다.8 빌라도는 이 말을 듣고 더욱 두려운 마음이 들어9 예수를 데리고 안으로 들어가서 ≪도대체 너는 어디서 온 사람이냐?≫ 하고 물었다. 예수께서는 아무 대답도 하지 않으셨다.10 ≪나에게도 말을 하지 않을 작정인가? 나에게는 너를 놓아줄 수도 있고 십자가형에 처할수도 있는 권한이 있는줄을 모르느냐?≫ 하는 빌라도의 이 말에11 예수께서는 이렇게 대답하셨다. ≪네가 하늘에서 권한을 받지 않았다면 나를 어떻게도 할수 없을 것이다. 그러므로 나를 너에게 넘겨준 사람의 죄가 더 크다.≫12 이 말을 들은 빌라도는 예수를 놓아줄 기회를 찾기 시작하였다. 그러나 유대사람들은 ≪만일 그 사람을 놓아준다면 총독님은 가이사의 충신이 아닙니다. 누구든지 자기를 왕이라고 하는 사람은 가이사의 적이 아닙니까?≫ 하고 큰 소리로 웨쳤다.13 빌라도는 이 말을 듣고 예수를 데리고나와 박석뜰이라고 하는 자리에 올라가 자기 재판관자리에 앉았다. 박석뜰이라는 말은 히브리말로 가바다라고 하는데 ≪돌을 깔아놓은 자리≫라는 뜻이다.14 그날은 유월절을 준비하는 날이였고 때는 낮 열두시쯤이였다. 빌라도는 유대사람들을 둘러보며 ≪자 여기 너희의 왕이 있다.≫라고 말하였다.15 그들은 ≪죽이시오. 죽이시오. 십자가에 못박아 죽이시오.≫ 하고 웨쳤다. 빌라도가 ≪너희의 왕을 나더러 십자가형에 처하란 말이냐?≫ 하고 말하자 대제사장들은 ≪우리의 왕은 가이사밖에는 없습니다.≫ 하고 대답하였다.16 그래서 빌라도는 예수를 십자가에 못박으라고 그들에게 내여주었다. 예수께서는 마침내 그들의 손에 넘어가17 몸소 십자가를 지시고 성밖을 나가 히브리말로 골고다라는 곳으로 향하셨다. 골고다라는 말은 해골산이라는 뜻이다.18 여기에서 그들은 예수를 십자가에 못박았다. 그리고 다른 두사람도 십자가에 달아 예수를 가운데로 하여 그 량쪽에 하나씩 세워놓았다.19 빌라도가 명패를 써서 십자가우에 붙였는데 거기에는 ≪유대사람의 왕 나사렛 예수≫라고 씌여있었다.20 그 명패는 히브리말과 라틴말, 희랍말로 적혀있었다. 예수께서 십자가에 달리신 곳이 예루살렘에서 가깝기 때문에 많은 유대사람들이 와서 그것을 읽어보았다.21 유대사람들의 대제사장들은 빌라도에게 가서 ≪＜유대사람의 왕＞이라고 쓰지 말고 ＜자칭 유대사람의 왕＞이라고 써서 붙여야 합니다.≫라고 말하였으나22 빌라도는 ≪한번 썼으면 그만이다.≫ 하고 거절하였다.23 예수를 십자가에 못박아 단 병사들은 옷가지를 가져다 네몫으로 나누어서 각각 한몫씩 차지하였다. 그러나 속옷은 우에서 아래까지 통으로 짠것이였으므로24 그들은 의논끝에 ≪이것은 찢지 말고 누구든 제비를 뽑아 가지기로 하자.≫ 하여 그대로 하였다. 이리하여 ≪그들은 내 겉옷을 나누어가지며 내 속옷을 놓고는 제비를 뽑았다.≫ 고 하신 성서의 말씀이 이루어졌다.25 예수의 십자가밑에는 그 어머니와 이모와 글로바의 안해 마리아와 막달라녀자 마리아가 서 있었다.26 예수께서는 자기 어머니와 그 곁에 서있는 사랑하는 제자를 보시고 먼저 어머니에게 ≪어머니, 이 사람이 어머니의 아들입니다.≫ 하시고27 그 제자에게는 ≪이분이 네 어머니시다.≫라고 말씀하셨다. 이때부터 그 제자는 마리아를 자기 집에 모셨다.28 예수께서는 모든 것이 끝났음을 아시고 ≪목마르다.≫고 말씀하셨다. 이 말씀으로 성서의 예언이 이루어졌다.29 마침 거기에는 신포도주가 가득 담긴 그릇이 있었는데 사람들이 그 포도주를 해면에 담뿍 적셔서 히솝풀대에 꿰여가지고 예수의 입에 대여드렸다.30 예수께서는 신포도주를 맛보신 다음 ≪이제 다 이루었다.≫ 하시고 고개를 떨어뜨리시며 숨을 거두었다.31 그날은 유월절준비일이였다. 다음날 대축제일은 마침 안식일과 겹치게 되였으므로 유대사람들은 안식일에 시체를 십자가에 그냥 두지 않으려고 빌라도에게 시체의 다리를 꺽어치워 달라고 청하였다.32 그래서 병사들이 와서 예수와 함께 십자가에 달린 사람들의 다리를 차례로 꺾고33 예수에게 가서는 이미 숨을 거둔 것을 보고 다리를 꺾는 대신34 병사 한사람이 창으로 옆구리를 찔렀다. 그러자 거기에서 피와 물이 나왔다.35 이것은 자기 눈으로 직접 본 사람의 증언이다. 그러므로 이 증언은 참되며 이 증언을 하는 사람은 자기 말이 틀림없는 사실이라는 것을 잘알고 있다. 그는 여러분도 믿게하려고 이렇게 증언하는 것이다.36 이렇게 해서 ≪그의 뼈는 하나도 부러지지 않을 것이다.≫라는 성경의 말씀이 이루어졌다.37 그리고 성경의 다른곳에는 ≪그들은 자기들이 찌른 사람을 보게 될 것이다.≫라는 기록도 있다.38 그후 아리마대사람 요셉이가 빌라도에게 예수의 시체를 가져가게 해달라고 청하였다. 그도 예수의 제자였지만 유대사람들이 무서워서 그 사실을 숨기고 있었다. 빌라도의 허락을 받아 요셉은 예수의 시체를 내렸다.39 그리고 언젠가 밤에 예수를 찾아왔던 니고데모도 침향을 섞은 몰약을 백근쯤 가지고 왔다.40 이 두사람은 예수의 시체를 모셔다가 유대사람들의 장례풍속대로 향로를 바르고 고운 베로 감았다.41 예수께서 십자가에 못박히신 곳에는 동산이 있었는데 거기에는 아직 장사지낸 일이 없는 새 무덤이 하나 있었다.42 그날은 유대사람들이 명절을 준비하는 날인데다가 그 무덤이 가까이 있었기 때문에 그들은 예수를 거기에 모셨다.

16 하나님은 이 세상을 극진히 사랑하셔서 외아들을 보내주시여 그를 믿는 사람은 누구든지 멸망하지 않고 영원한 생명을 얻게 하여주셨다.
Luke 23
1 그리고나서 그들은 모두 일어나 예수를 빌라도앞으로 끌고가서2 ≪우리는 이 사람이 백성들에게 소란을 일으키도록 선동하며 가이사에게 세금을 바치지 못하게 하고 자칭 그리스도니 왕이니 하기에 붙잡아왔습니다.≫라고 고발하였다.3 빌라도가 예수에게 ≪네가 유대사람의 왕인가.≫고 물었다. ≪그것은 너의 말이다.≫라고 예수께서 대답하시였다.4 빌라도가 대제사장들과 군중들을 향하여 ≪나는 이 사람에게서 아무런 잘못도 찾아낼수 없다.≫라고 선언하였다.5 그러나 그들은 ≪이 사람은 갈릴리에서 이곳에 이르기까지 온 유대땅을 돌아다니며 백성들을 가르치면서 선동하고 있습니다.≫라고 우겨댔다.6 이 말을 들은 빌라도는 이 사람이 갈릴리사람이냐고 묻고7 예수가 헤롯의 관할구역에 속해있다는 것을 알고 그때 예루살렘에 와있던 헤롯에게 예수를 넘겨주었다.8 헤롯은 예수를 보고 매우 기뻐하였다. 그것은 헤롯이 오래전부터 예수의 소문을 듣고 한번 만나보고 싶었기 때문이였다.9 헤롯이 이것저것 캐여물었지만 예수께서는 아무런 대답도 하지 않았다.10 그때 대제사장들과 률법학자들이 거기에 있다가 예수를 악랄하게 고발하였다.11 헤롯이 자기 경비병들과 함께 예수를 조롱하며 모욕을 준 다음 화려한 옷을 입혀 빌라도에게 돌려보냈다.12 헤롯과 빌라도는 전에 서로 반목하고 지냈지만 이날에는 다정한 사이가 되였다.13 빌라도가 대제사장들과 의회원들, 백성들을 불러모으고 그들에게14 이렇게 말하였다. ≪너희가 이 사람이 백성들을 그릇되게 선동한다고 끌고왔지만 너희가 보는데서 직접 심문을 했는데도 나는 너희의 고발을 뒤받침할만한 아무런 죄상도 찾지 못했다.15 헤롯이 이 사람을 우리에게 돌려보낸 것을 보면 그도 아무런 죄를 찾지 못한 것이 틀림없다. 보다싶이 이 사람은 사형에 해당한 일은 하나도 하지 않았다.16 그래서 나는 이 사람을 매질이나 해서 놓아줄 생각이다.≫17 그러자 그들은 큰 소리로 일제히 ≪그 사람은 죽이고18 바라바를 놓아주시오.≫라고 소리질렀다.19 바라바는 그 도시에서 폭동을 일으키고 살인까지 하여 감옥에 갇혀있는 사람이였다.20 빌라도는 예수를 놓아주고 싶어서 그들에게 다시 자기의 뜻을 밝혔으나21 그들은 굽히지 않고 ≪십자가형이요, 십자가에 못박으시오.≫라고 소리질렀다.22 빌라도는 세번째로 ≪도대체 이 사람이 무슨 죄를 지었단 말이냐. 나는 이 사람에게서 사형에 처할 죄를 찾아내지 못하였다. 그러니 이 사람을 매질이나 해서 놓아줄 생각이다.≫라고 말하였다.23 그러나 그들은 더욱 악을 써가며 예수를 십자가에 못박아야 한다고 소리질렀다. 마침내 그들의 고함소리가 걷잡을수 없게 되자24 빌라도가 그들의 요구를 들어주겠다고 선언한 다음25 폭동과 살인죄로 감옥에 갇혀있던 바라바는 그들의 요구대로 놓아주고 예수는 그들의 요구대로 처리하라고 넘겨주었다.26 그들은 예수를 끌고나가다가 시골에서 성안으로 들어오고 있던 시몬이라는 구레네사람을 붙들어 십자가를 지우고 예수의 뒤를 따라가게 하였다.27 수많은 사람들이 예수를 뒤따랐는데 그중에는 예수를 보고 가슴을 치며 통곡하는 녀자들도 있었다.28 예수께서는 그 녀자들을 돌아보며 ≪예루살렘의 녀인들아, 나를 위하여 울지 말고 너와 너의 아들딸들을 위하여 울어라.29 ＜아기를 낳지 못하는 녀자들과 아기를 낳아보지 못하고 젖을 빨려보지 못한 녀자들이 행복하다.＞고 말할 때가 이제 올 것이다.30 그때 사람들은 산을 보고 ＜우리우에 무너져내려라＞ 고 할것이며 언덕을 보고 ＜우리를 가리워달라.＞ 고 할 것이다.31 생나무가 이런 일을 당하는데 마른나무야 오죽하겠느냐.≫고 말씀하시였다.32 다른 죄수 두사람도 예수와 함께 사형장에 끌려가고 있었다.33 해골산이라는곳에 이르러 사람들은 거기에서 예수를 십자가에 못박았고 죄수 두사람도 십자가형에 처하여 예수의 좌우편에 한사람씩 매달아놓았다.34 예수께서는 ≪아버지, 저 사람들을 용서하여 주십시오. 그들은 자기가 하는일을 모르고 있습니다.≫라고 기원하시였다. 예수를 십자가에 못박은자들은 제비를 뽑아 예수의 옷을 나누어가졌다.35 사람들이 곁에서 쳐다보고 있는 동안 관리들은 예수를 보고 ≪이 사람이 남을 살렸으니 정말 하나님께서 택하신 그리스도라면 어디 자기도 살려보라지.≫라고 하며 조롱하였다.36 군인들도 또한 예수를 희롱하면서 가까이 가서 신포도주를 권하고37 ≪네가 유대사람의 왕이라면 자신이나 살려보라.≫고 하며 빈정거렸다.38 그들은 예수의 머리우에 ≪이 사람은 유대사람의 왕≫이라고 쓴 나무패를 걸어놓았다.39 예수와 함께 십자가에 매달린 죄수중의 한사람도 예수를 모욕하면서 ≪당신은 그리스도가 아닌가. 당신도 살리고 우리도 살려보시오.≫라고 말하였다.40 그러나 다른 죄수는 ≪너도 저분과 같이 사형선고를 받은 주제에 하나님이 두렵지 않느냐.41 우리가 한짓을 보아서 우리는 이런 벌을 받아 마땅하지만 저분이야 무슨 잘못이 있단말이냐.≫라고 꾸짖고는42 ≪예수님, 예수님께서 왕이 되여 오실 때에 저를 꼭 기억하여 주십시오.≫라고 간청하였다.43 예수께서 ≪오늘 네가 정녕 나와 함께 락원에 들어가게 될 것이다.≫라고 대답하시였다.44 낮 열두시쯤 되자 어둠이 온 땅을 덮어 오후 세시까지 계속되였다.45 태양마저 빛을 잃었던 것이다. 그때 성전휘장 한가운데가 찢어지며 두폭으로 갈라졌다.46 예수께서 큰 소리로 ≪아버지, 저의 령혼을 아버지손에 맡깁니다.≫라고 하시고는 숨을 거두셨다.47 이 모든 광경을 보고있던 백부장은 하나님을 찬양하며 ≪이 사람이야말로 죄없는 사람이였구나.≫라고 말하였다.48 구경을 하러 나왔던 군중도 이 모든 광경을 보고 가슴을 치면서 집으로 돌아갔다.49 예수의 친구들과 갈릴리에서부터 예수를 따라다니던 녀자들도 모두 멀리에서 이 모든 일을 지켜보고 있었다.50 그때 요셉이라는 사람이 있었는데 그는 의회원이였고 옳바르고 덕망이 높은 사람이였다.51 그는 예수를 죽이려는 의회의 결정과 행동에 찬동을 한 일이 없었다. 그는 유대사람들의 동네 아리마대출신으로 하나님의 나라를 기대하면서 살아온 사람이였다.52 그는 빌라도에게로 가서 예수의 시체를 내여달라고 청하여 승낙을 받고53 그 시체를 가져다가 고운 베로 싼 다음 바위를 파서 만든 무덤에 모셨다. 그것은 아직 아무도 장사지낸 일이 없는 무덤이였다.54 그날은 명절준비하는 날이였다. 시간은 이미 안식일에 접어들고 있었다.55 갈릴리에서부터 예수와 함께 온 녀자들도 그곳까지 따라가 예수의 시체를 무덤에 어떻게 모시는지 눈여겨 보았다.56 그리고 집에 돌아가 향료와 향유를 마련하였다. 그리고 녀인들은 계명대로 안식일을 조용히 지켰다.
Mark 15
1 And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole Council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.2 And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”3 And the chief priests accused him of many things.4 And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”5 But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.6 Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.7 And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.8 And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.9 And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”10 For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.12 And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”14 And Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.16 And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.18 And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”19 And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.20 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.21 And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.22 And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).23 And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.24 And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.25 And it was the third hour when they crucified him.26 And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.”27 And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.29 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!”31 So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.33 And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”35 And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.”37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.39 And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”40 There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.41 When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.42 And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,43 Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the Council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead.45 And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph.46 And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.
Matthew 27
1 When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.2 And they bound him and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate the governor.3 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.6 But the chief priests, taking the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is blood money.”7 So they took counsel and bought with them the potter's field as a burial place for strangers.8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.9 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel,10 and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me.”11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said so.”12 But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer.13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?”14 But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the crowd any one prisoner whom they wanted.16 And they had then a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.17 So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”18 For he knew that it was out of envy that they had delivered him up.19 Besides, while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today in a dream.”20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.21 The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”23 And he said, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man's blood; see to it yourselves.”25 And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”26 Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him.28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him,29 and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”30 And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.31 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.32 As they went out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”44 And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink.49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”55 There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him,56 among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus.58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate63 and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’64 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.”65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.”66 So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.
