15 예수께서는 그들이 자기를 억지로라도 왕으로 모시려는 것을 알아채시고 혼자서 다시 산으로 피해가셨다.16 그날 저녁에 제자들은 호수가로 내려가서17 배를 타고 호수건너편에 있는 가버나움으로 저어갔다. 예수께서는 이미 어둠이 짙어졌는데도 그들에게로 돌아오지 않으셨다.18 거센 바람이 불고 바다물결은 사나와졌다.19 그런데 그들이 배를 저어 10여리쯤 갔을 때 예수께서 물우로 걸어서 배있는쪽으로 다가오셨다. 이 광경을 본 제자들은 겁에 질렸다.20 예수께서 제자들에게 ≪나다, 두려워할 것 없다.≫ 하시자21 제자들은 예수를 배안에 모셔들이려고 하였다. 그러나 배는 어느새 그들의 목적지에 가닿았다.

45 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them,49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out,50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded,52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore.54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him

When evening came, he was there alone,24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
