1 히스기야는 온 이스라엘과 유대에 사람을 보내였다. 에브라임과 므낫세에는 예루살렘, 여호와의 성전에 와서 유월절을 지키며 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬송하라고 편지를 띄웠다.2 왕은 대신들과 온 군중과 더불어 의논하고 2월에 유월절을 지키기로 하였다.3 제때에 유월절을 지키지 못한것은 부정을 씻고 하나님께 몸바친 제사장이 적었고 백성이 예루살렘에 미처 모이지 못했기때문이였다.4 그렇게 하는것이 왕과 온 군중의 생각에도 옳게 보여5 예루살렘에서 유월절을 지켜 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬송하도록 브엘세바로부터 단에 이르기까지 이스라엘 전국에 포고령을 내리기로 결정하였다. 그때는 규정대로 유월절을 지킨 사람이 많지 않았던것이다.6 보발군들은 왕과 대신들에게서 편지를 받아 이스라엘과 유대 전국을 돌아다니며 어명을 선포하였다. ≪이스라엘백성들아, 아브라함과 이삭과 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께 돌아오라. 그래야 여호와께서도 앗수르왕들의 손아귀에서 살아남은 사람들에게 돌아오실것이다.7 너희 동족들은 저희들을 돌보시는 하나님 여호와께 반역하다가 너희들이 보다싶이 그 참혹한 일을 당하였다. 그러니 너희는 그들과 같이 되지 않도록 하여라.8 너희 선조들처럼 고집부리지 말고 여호와께 순종하여라. 영원히 당신의 것으로 삼으신 성소에 와서 너희 하나님 여호와를 섬겨라. 그러면 하나님께서 당신의 진노를 거두시리라.9 너희가 여호와께 돌아와야 너희 겨레, 너희 자녀들을 사로잡아간자들이 그들을 불쌍히 여겨 이 땅으로 돌려보내줄것이다. 여호와께서는 너희를 고이 보시고 뜨겁게 사랑해주신다. 당신께로 돌아오기만 하면 결코 너희를 외면하지 않으시리라.≫10 보발군들은 에브라임지방과 므낫세지방을 이성읍, 저성읍 돌아다녀 스불론에까지 이르렀지만 사람들은 코웃음치며 그들을 놀려주기만 하였다.11 그래도 아셀과 므낫세와 스불론사람들가운데서 머리를 숙이고 예루살렘으로 오는 사람이 더러 있었다.12 유대에서만은 하나님께서 사람들을 감화시키셨다. 여호와의 말씀을 따라 왕이 대신들과 함께 내린 명령을 따를 마음이 모든 사람들에게서 일어났던것이다.13 그리하여 2월에 많은 사람이 예루살렘에 모여와서 무교절을 지키게 되였다. 아주 많은 군중이 모였다.14 그들은 우선 예루살렘에 있는 제단들을 헐고 분향단을 모조리 뜯어내여 기드론골짜기에 가져다버렸다.15 그리고 2월 14일에 유월절 양을 잡았다. 제사장들과 레위사람들은 부끄러운 생각이 들어 여호와의 성전에 번제를 바쳐 부정을 벗고 하나님께 몸을 바쳤다.16 그리고 하나님의 사람 모세의 법을 따라 정해진 자리에 섰다. 제사장들은 레위사람들에게서 피를 받아뿌렸다.17 군중가운데는 부정을 벗지 못한 사람들이 많았다. 그래서 레위사람들은 사람 하나에 유월절 양한마리씩 잡아 부정을 벗겨주어야 했다.18 많은 사람들이 부정을 벗지 못한채 유월절 양을 먹어 규정을 어기였다. 에브라임, 므낫세, 이싸갈, 스불론사람들이 대부분 그랬다. 그래서 히스기야는 그들을 생각하고 기도를 올렸다. ≪어지신 여호와여, 용서하십시오.19 이 사람들은 선조들의 하나님 여호와를 찾기로 마음을 정한 사람들입니다. 그러니 비록 부정을 벗지 못하여 하나님앞에 나올수 없는 몸이라 하지만 그 죄를 벗겨주십시오.≫20 여호와께서는 히스기야의 기도를 들으시고 그들을 살려주셨다.21 예루살렘에 있던 온 이스라엘백성이 기뻐 어쩔줄을 모르며 7일간 무교절을 지키는데 레위사람들과 제사장들은 날마다 온 힘을 다하여 여호와께 찬양을 불러올렸다.22 히스기야는 레위사람들이 훌륭하게 여호와를 찬양하는것을 보고 칭찬해주었다. 이렇게 하여 7일간 화목제물을 잡아바치고 선조들의 하나님 여호와께 감사찬송을 부르며 절기를 지켰다.23 그러나 온 군중은 다시 7일간 절기를 연장하기로 합의하였다. 더구나 기뻐하며 7일을 지킬수 있었던것은24 군중에게 유대왕 히스기야가 소 천마리와 양 7천마리를, 대신들이 소 천마리와 양 1만마리를 내놓았기때문이였다. 많은 제사장들이 몸을 거룩하게 하는 례식을 치렀다.25 제사장과 레위사람을 비롯하여 유대군중, 이스라엘에서온 군중, 이스라엘에서온 외국사람과 유대에 살던 거류민들도 함께 기뻐하였다.26 그렇게 기뻐한 일은 이스라엘의 왕 다윗의 아들 솔로몬시대 이후로 예루살렘에서 일찌기 없던 일이였다.27 제사장들과 레위사람들은 백성들에게 복을 빌어주기 시작하였다. 그 기도가 하나님계시는 거룩한곳 하늘에 미치니 하나님께서는 그 소원을 들어주셨다.
2 Kings 19
1 히스기야왕은 그들의 보고를 듣고나서 입고있던 옷을 찢고 삼베옷을 두르고 여호와의 성전에 들어가2 궁내대신 엘리야김과 시종무관 셉나와 고위 제사장들에게 모두 삼베옷을 입혀 아모스의 아들 예언자 이사야에게 가서3 왕의 말을 전하게 하였다. ≪이 날은 우리에게 환난의 날이며 질책과 치욕의 날이요. 우리는 마치 아이를 낳으려 하나 아이를 낳을 힘이 없는 산모와 같소.4 그대의 하나님 여호와께서 앗수르왕이 보낸 시종장관이 살아계신 하나님을 조롱하여 한 말을 모두 들으셨을것이요. 그리고 그대의 하나님 여호와께서는 그 말을 들으시고 꾸짖을것이요.아직 살아남아있는자들을 위하여 기도를 드려주시오.≫5 히스기야왕의 시종들이 이사야에게 가자6 이사야는 이렇게 대답하였다. ≪가서 그대들의 상전에게 전하시오. 이것은 여호와의 말씀이요. ＜앗수르왕의 아첨배들이 나를 비방하여 한 말을 가지고 놀라지 말라.7 내가 앗수르왕을 귀신에 사로잡히게 하여 뜬소문을 듣고 자기 나라로 철수하도록 하리라. 그후에 거기서 칼에 맞아 죽게 하리라.＞≫8 이때 시종관은 앗수르왕이 라기스를 떠났다는 소식을 듣고 퇴각하여 립니를 공격하고있는 앗수르왕과 합세하였다.9 앗수르왕은 구스의 왕 디르하가가 자기와 교전하기 위하여 진격하고 있다는 정보를 접하고 히스기야에게 다시 특사를 보내며 말하였다.10 ≪유대왕 히스기야에게 이렇게 전하여라. ＜네가 의지하고있는 너의 하나님이 예루살렘은 앗수르왕에게 정복되지 않으리라고 말한다 하더라도 그 말에 속지 말라.11 앗수르의 력대 왕들이 주위의 여러 나라들을 정복하고 그 백성들을 무찌른 사실을 너는 분명히 들어 알고있지 않느냐. 그래도 네가 피할수 있으리라고 바라느냐.12 나의 선왕들은 여러 나라를 쳐서 무찔렀다. 고산, 하란, 레셉, 들라살에 있는 에덴족 등 이들 나라의 신들이 제나라를 구출했더냐.13 하맛, 아르밧, 스바와임, 헤임, 아와, 이 모든 나라 왕들은 모두 어디갔느냐.＞≫14 히스기야는 특사들에게서 서신을 받아읽었다. 그리고나서 그는 곧장 여호와의 전에 올라가 여호와앞에 그 편지를 펼쳐놓고15 이렇게 기도하였다. ≪만군의 여호와 그룹들 우에서 다스리는 이스라엘의 하나님이여, 당신의 땅우의 모든 왕국을 지배하시는 유일하신 하나님이십니다. 당신께서 하늘과 땅을 만드셨습니다.16 여호와여, 귀를 기울리시고 들어주십시오. 여호와여, 눈을 뜨시고 보십시오. 산헤립이 보낸자들이 살아계신 하나님을 조롱하여 하는 말을 들어보십시오.17 여호와여, 앗수르의 력대 왕들이 이웃의 나라들과 그 령토를 짓밟았고18 그 나라들의 신들을 불에 던졌음은 사실입니다. 하기야 그 나라들의 신들은 사람의 손으로 만든 물건으로서 다만 나무와 돌에 지나지 않습니다만 그렇지 않고서야 어찌 없애버릴수 있겠습니까.19 여호와 우리의 하나님이여, 그의 손아귀로부터 우리를 구하여주십시오. 그리하여 땅우의 모든 왕국들이 여호와 당신만이 하나님이심을 알게 하여주십시오.≫20 아모쓰의 아들 이사야가 히스기야에게 사람을 보내여 말하였다. ≪이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 말씀이요. ＜앗수르왕 산헤립을 두고 간구한 너의 기도를 내가 들었다.＞21 앗수르왕을 두고 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨소. ＜시온의 딸, 처녀가 너를 비웃고 멸시하리라. 네가 퇴각할 때 예루살렘의 딸이 그 머리를 들리라.22 네가 누구를 조소하고 비방하였는가. 네가 누구에게 큰 소리를 쳤는가. 이스라엘의 거룩한이에게 너는 눈길을 던졌다.23 너는 특사를 보내여 주를 조소하며 말하였다. 내가 나의 병거를 타고 위대한 업적을 이루었노라고 또 높은 산을 정복하였으며 레바논의 막다른 봉우리까지 올랐노라고 레바논의 우람한 삼목과 가장 훌륭한 잣나무를 내가 베여 제꼈노라고 레바논의 평온한 안식처 그 숲과 초원을 내가 다 밟았노라고24 내가 또 외국땅에서 우물을 파 그 물을 마셔보았으며 나의 발바닥으로 애급에 있는 모든 강의 물을 말렸노라고.25 그러나 너는 오래전에 듣지 못하였느냐. 내가 이룩한 이 모든 업적을 오래전에 내가 그 일을 계획하였고 또 지금 내가 그 일을 성취하였으니 견고한 요새는 무너져 한갖 돌무더기에 불과하게 되리라.26 그 나라 백성들은 기진맥진하여 실망하고 부끄러움을 당하였다. 그들의 신세는 들판의 식물같고 돌풍에 날려가는 지붕우의 마른 풀과 같다.27 나는 네가 일어나고 앉는 것 나가고 들어오는것을 다 알고있다.28 또한 네가 나를 거역하여 품고있는 분노와 오만을 나는 일찍부터 알았다. 그러므로 나의 코에 쇠고리를 꿰고 입에 자갈을 물려 네가 왔던 그 길로 되돌려보내리라.29 이것이 너에게 증거가 될것이다. 올해에는 떨어진 씨에서 저절로 난 곡식을 먹을것이고 래년에는 심지 않고 저절로 난 곡식을 먹으리라. 그러나 후년에는 씨를 뿌려서 추수하고 포도밭을 가꾸어 그 열매를 먹으리라.30 유대땅에 살아남은자들은 땅속으로 싱싱한 뿌리를 내릴것이고 땅우에서 열매를 맺으리라.31 살아남은자들이 예루살렘에서 나오고 란을 피한자들이 시온산에서 나올것이다. 만군의 여호와께서 열성을 부어 이 일을 이루시리라.＞32 그러므로 여호와께서 앗수르왕을 두고 이렇게 말씀하셨소. ＜그는 이 성에 들어오지 못하리라. 이 성에 활을 쓰지도 못하리라. 방패를 가지고 이 성에 쳐들어오지 못할것이며 토성을 쌓지도 못하리라.33 그는 제가 온 길로 되돌아갈것이며 이 성에는 결코 발을 들여놓지 못하리라. 이것은 여호와의 말이다.34 나자신을 보아서 그리고 나의 종 다윗을 보아서 내가 이 성을 지키고 구원하리라.＞≫35 그날밤 여호와의 천사가 나타나 앗수르의 진영에서 군인 18만 5천명을 쳤다. 아침이 되여 날이 밝았을 때 그들은 모두 시체로 발견되였다.36 앗수르왕 산헤립은 막사를 걷어 니느웨로 돌아가서 그곳에 머물렀다,37 그런데 어느날 그가 그의 신인 니스록의 신전에서 례배하고있을 때 그의 아들 아드람멜렉과 사레셀이 그를 칼로 쳐죽이고는 이라랏지방으로 도망하였다. 그의 아들 에살핫돈이 왕위를 계승하였다.
Isaiah 33
1 Ah, you destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed, you traitor, whom none has betrayed! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have finished betraying, they will betray you.2 O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.3 At the tumultuous noise peoples flee; when you lift yourself up, nations are scattered,4 and your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers; as locusts leap, it is leapt upon.5 The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness,6 and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is Zion's treasure.7 Behold, their heroes cry in the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly.8 The highways lie waste; the traveler ceases. Covenants are broken; cities are despised; there is no regard for man.9 The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is confounded and withers away; Sharon is like a desert, and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.10 “Now I will arise,” says the LORD, “now I will lift myself up; now I will be exalted.11 You conceive chaff; you give birth to stubble; your breath is a fire that will consume you.12 And the peoples will be as if burned to lime, like thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.”13 Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge my might.14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?”15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,16 he will dwell on the heights; his place of defense will be the fortresses of rocks; his bread will be given him; his water will be sure.17 Your eyes will behold the king in his beauty; they will see a land that stretches afar.18 Your heart will muse on the terror: “Where is he who counted, where is he who weighed the tribute? Where is he who counted the towers?”19 You will see no more the insolent people, the people of an obscure speech that you cannot comprehend, stammering in a tongue that you cannot understand.20 Behold Zion, the city of our appointed feasts! Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an untroubled habitation, an immovable tent, whose stakes will never be plucked up, nor will any of its cords be broken.21 But there the LORD in majesty will be for us a place of broad rivers and streams, where no galley with oars can go, nor majestic ship can pass.22 For the LORD is our judge; the LORD is our lawgiver; the LORD is our king; he will save us.23 Your cords hang loose; they cannot hold the mast firm in its place or keep the sail spread out. Then prey and spoil in abundance will be divided; even the lame will take the prey.24 And no inhabitant will say, “I am sick”; the people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.
Isaiah 37
1 As soon as King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the LORD.2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and the senior priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz.3 They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.4 It may be that the LORD your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words that the LORD your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”5 When the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah,6 Isaiah said to them, “Say to your master, ‘Thus says the LORD: Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the young men of the king of Assyria have reviled me.7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, so that he shall hear a rumor and return to his own land, and I will make him fall by the sword in his own land.’”8 The Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that the king had left Lachish.9 Now the king heard concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, “He has set out to fight against you.” And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,10 “Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, devoting them to destruction. And shall you be delivered?12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my fathers destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?’”14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.15 And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD:16 “O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.17 Incline your ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God.18 Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands,19 and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed.20 So now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the LORD.”21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,22 this is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: “‘She despises you, she scorns you— the virgin daughter of Zion; she wags her head behind you— the daughter of Jerusalem.23 “‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes to the heights? Against the Holy One of Israel!24 By your servants you have mocked the Lord, and you have said, With my many chariots I have gone up the heights of the mountains, to the far recesses of Lebanon, to cut down its tallest cedars, its choicest cypresses, to come to its remotest height, its most fruitful forest.25 I dug wells and drank waters, to dry up with the sole of my foot all the streams of Egypt.26 “‘Have you not heard that I determined it long ago? I planned from days of old what now I bring to pass, that you should make fortified cities crash into heaps of ruins,27 while their inhabitants, shorn of strength, are dismayed and confounded, and have become like plants of the field and like tender grass, like grass on the housetops, blighted before it is grown.28 “‘I know your sitting down and your going out and coming in, and your raging against me.29 Because you have raged against me and your complacency has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.’30 “And this shall be the sign for you: this year you shall eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs from that. Then in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.31 And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.32 For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.33 “Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow there or come before it with a shield or cast up a siege mound against it.34 By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, declares the LORD.35 For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.”36 And the angel of the LORD went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.37 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned home and lived at Nineveh.38 And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword. And after they escaped into the land of Ararat, Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.
