1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.3 For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had broken down, and he erected altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.”5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.6 And he burned his sons as an offering in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.7 And the carved image of the idol that he had made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever,8 and I will no more remove the foot of Israel from the land that I appointed for your fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, all the law, the statutes, and the rules given through Moses.”9 Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, to do more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention.11 Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with chains of bronze and brought him to Babylon.12 And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.13 He prayed to him, and God was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.14 Afterward he built an outer wall for the city of David west of Gihon, in the valley, and for the entrance into the Fish Gate, and carried it around Ophel, and raised it to a very great height. He also put commanders of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah.15 And he took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside of the city.16 He also restored the altar of the LORD and offered on it sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving, and he commanded Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel.17 Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, behold, they are in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.19 And his prayer, and how God was moved by his entreaty, and all his sin and his faithlessness, and the sites on which he built high places and set up the Asherim and the images, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the Chronicles of the Seers.20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house, and Amon his son reigned in his place.21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.22 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done. Amon sacrificed to all the images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them.23 And he did not humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred guilt more and more.24 And his servants conspired against him and put him to death in his house.25 But the people of the land struck down all those who had conspired against King Amon. And the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place.

1 므낫세는 12살에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 55년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니의 이름은 헵시바라 하였다.2 므낫세는 여호와의 눈에 거슬리는 그릇된 정치를 하였다. 여호와께서 이스라엘사람 면전에서 쫓아낸 민족들의 역겨운 풍속을 따라3 부왕 히스기야가 허물어버린 산당들을 다시 세웠고 이스라엘왕 아합을 본받아 바알제단을 쌓았으며 아세라목상을 만들었고 하늘의 별들을 절하여 섬겼다.4 그는 여호와의 전안에 이방 신들을 위한 제단들을 쌓았는데 그 전을 두고 여호와께서는 일찌기 ≪내가 예루살렘을 내 이름으로 삼으리라.≫고 하셨던것이다.5 그는 이 여호와의 전안팎 뜰안에 하늘의 별들을 섬기는 제단들을 쌓았다.6 그리고 왕자들을 불에 살라바칠뿐아니라 점쟁이와 술객을 두었고 혼백을 불러내는 무당과 박수를 두었다. 이렇게 여호와의 눈에 거슬리는 일을 많이 하여 여호와의 속을 썩여드렸다.7 또 그는 아세라목상을 만들어 여호와의 전안에 세웠다. 여호와께서는 일찌기 이 예루살렘성전을 두고 다윗과 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 이렇게 말씀하셨던것이다. ≪이 성전 이스라엘 온 지파들가운데서 선택한 예루살렘에 영원히 나의 이름을 둔다.8 만일 내 명령을 성실히 지키고 나의 종 모세가 일러준 모든 법을 성실히 지키기만 한다면 선조들에게 주었던 땅에서 이스라엘의 온 지파들을 다시는 내쫓지 않으리라.≫9 그러나 그들은 그 말씀을 듣지 않았다. 므낫세는 이스라엘을 그릇인도하였다. 그리하여 이스라엘이 저지른 악이 여호와께서 자기들 면전에서 멸하신 민족들보다 한층 더 심하였다.10 그리하여 여호와께서는 당신의 예언자들을 시켜 말씀하셨다.11 ≪유대왕 므낫세가 이러한 여러가지 고약한 일들을 행하였는데 일찌기 그 어느 아모리사람이 그보다 더 악하였더냐. 그는 우상을 만들어 유대를 죄에 빠뜨렸다.12 이스라엘의 하나님 나 여호와가 선언한다. 나 이제 듣는자마다 가슴에 내려 앉을 재앙을 예루살렘과 유대에 내리리라.13 사마리아를 허물 때 쓰던 측량줄과 아합의 궁궐을 허물 때 쓰던 다림줄을 대고 예루살렘을 허물어버리리라. 사람이 접시를 뒤집어 닦듯이 예루살렘안팎을 말끔히 씻어버리리라.14 내가 남아있는 나의 백성을 버려 원쑤들의 손에 넘겨주면 모든 원쑤들이 달려들어 모조리 털어갈것이다.15 선조들이 애급에서 나오던 날부터 이날에 이르기까지 내눈에 거슬리는 일을 하여 나의 속을 썩여주었기때문이다.16 므낫세는 나의 눈에 거슬리는 그 못할 짓을 하도록 이끌어 유대백성을 죄에 빠뜨린데다가 무죄한 사람의 피마저 흘려온 예루살렘을 피바다로 만들었다.≫17 므낫세의 나머지 사적과 행적 그리고 그가 저지른 죄는 유대 왕조실록에 기록되여있다.18 므낫세가 그 선조들과 같이 잠들자 웃사정원이라고도 하는 왕실정원에 안장되였다. 그의 아들 아몬이 왕위를 계승하였다.19 아몬은 22살에 즉위하여 예루살렘에서 2년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 요빠출신인 하루스의 딸로서 이름은 므슬레멧이라 하였다.20 그는 부왕 므낫세가 그러했듯이 여호와보시기에 악한 일을 행하였다.21 부왕의 전철을 그대로 밟아 부왕이 숭배했던 우상을 숭배하였다.22 그는 선조들의 하나님 여호와를 버리고 여호와의 길을 벗어났다.23 아몬왕의 신하들이 반란을 일으켜 그를 궁전에서 죽였다.24 그러나 지방민들이 반란자들을 모조리 쳐죽이고 왕자 요시아를 왕으로 모셔 대를 잇게 하였다.25 아몬의 나머지 사적은 유대 왕조실록에 기록되여있다.26 아몬은 웃사정원에 있는 그의 묘지에 매장되였다. 그의 아들 요시아가 왕위를 계승하였다.
