The covered face and joyful celebration point to the deception arranged by Laban, who gave Leah to Jacob in place of Rachel after Jacob had served seven years for the woman he loved. The veil becomes the central symbol of the story: what appears to be a marriage feast also conceals a painful act of manipulation.
