1 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’”2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying,3 “Now, O LORD, please remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.4 And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him:5 “Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD,6 and I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.”7 And Isaiah said, “Bring a cake of figs. And let them take and lay it on the boil, that he may recover.”8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD on the third day?”9 And Isaiah said, “This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has promised: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?”10 And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow to lengthen ten steps. Rather let the shadow go back ten steps.”11 And Isaiah the prophet called to the LORD, and he brought the shadow back ten steps, by which it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz.12 At that time Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick.13 And Hezekiah welcomed them, and he showed them all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his armory, all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them.14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, from Babylon.”15 He said, “What have they seen in your house?” And Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them.”16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD:17 Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the LORD.18 And some of your own sons, who shall be born to you, shall be taken away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”19 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?”20 The rest of the deeds of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made the pool and the conduit and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
Isaiah 38
1 그무렵 히스기야가 몹시 앓아 거의 죽게 되였다. 아모스의 아들 예언자 이사야가 왕에게 와서 말하였다. ≪이것은 여호와의 말씀이요. ＜너의 왕실에 마지막 유시를 내려 기강을 바로 잡아라. 너는 곧 죽게 될것이며 다시 회복되지 못하리라.＞≫2 히스기야는 벽을 향하여 얼굴을 돌리고 여호와께 기도하였다.3 ≪오, 여호와여, 제가 항상 당신앞에서 참되게 살았으며 충성스럽게 당신을 섬겼고 당신 보시기에 선한 일을 행하였음을 기억하여주십시오.≫ 그리고나서 히스기야는 매우 슬프게 울었다.4 여호와의 말씀이 이사야에게 내렸다.5 ≪가서 히스기야에게 일러라. ＜너의 선조 다윗의 하나님 여호와가 하는 말이다. 네 기도를 내가 들었고 네 눈물을 내가 보았다. 내가 너의 병을 낫게 해주리라. 3일만에 너는 여호와의 전에 올라가게 되리라. 내가 너의 수명을 15년 더 연장시켜주리라.6 너와 이 성을 앗수르왕의 손아귀에서 구해내고 이 성을 보호하리라.＞≫7 이사야가 대답하였다. ≪여기에 여호와께서 당신의 약속을 그대로 이루시리라는 증거가 있습니다.8 보시오. 내가 아하스의 태양시계에 비친 그림자를 내려갔던 금에서 열칸 올라오게 하겠소.≫ 그러자 해가 되돌아가서 내려갔던 그림자가 열칸이나 올라왔다.9 유대왕 히스기야는 병이 회복되자 이렇게 노래하였다.10 나는 생각하였습니다. 이제 한창 살 나이에 저승의 문에 들어가야 하는구나. 남은 세월은 빼앗기고 마는구나.11 나는 생각하였습니다. 이사람이 사는 이 땅에서 다시는 여호와를 뵙지 못하고 이 지구우에 사는 사람을 두번다시 보지 못하겠구나.12 나의 초막은 목동의 초막처럼 뽑혀 말끔히 치워졌습니다. 당신께서는 직조공이 천을 감아들이듯 나의 목숨을 감아들이고 베틀에서 자르듯 자르십니다. 해가 떠도, 해가 져도 당신께서는 나를 보아주시지 않으십니다.13 아침이 되도록 나는 호소합니다. 주께서 사자같이 나의 뼈를 부수십니다. 해가 떠도, 해가 져도 당신께서는 나를 보아주시지 않으십니다.14 내가 제비처럼 애타게 웁니다. 비둘기처럼 구슬프게 웁니다. 내 눈은 높은곳을 우러러 보다가 멍해집니다. 나의 주여, 괴롭습니다. 나를 보살펴주십시오.15 내가 무슨 말을 하겠습니까. 무엇이라고 주께 아뢰겠습니까. 주님께서 하신 일인데 내 마음의 슬픔때문에 잠도 멀리 도망치고말았습니다.16 나의 주여, 내가 마음으로 당신만을 바라보고 살겠습니다. 마음을 진정시켜주시고 살려주십시오.17 이제 슬픔은 가시고 평화가 왔습니다. 당신께서는 나를 멸망의 구렁에서 건져주셨습니다. 나의 죄악을 당신의 뒤로 던져버리셨습니다.18 저승이 어찌 당신을 찬양하며 죽음이 어찌 당신을 찬미하겠습니까. 땅속에 들어간자들이 어찌 당신의 성실하심이 나타나기를 바라겠습니까.19 오늘 이 몸이 당신을 찬미하듯이 살아 숨쉬는자만이 당신을 찬미하옵니다. 나도 한 아버지로서 자식들에게 당신의 성실하심을 알리겠습니다.20 여호와여, 나를 구해주신이는 당신이십니다. 우리는 한평생 여호와의 전에서 거문고를 타며 노래하겠습니다.21 그리고 이사야는 사람들에게 일렀다. ≪무화과로 고약을 만들어 종기에 붙여드리시오. 그러면 임금께서 사실것이요.≫22 히스기야가 물었다. ≪무슨 증거를 보고 내가 여호와의 성전에 올라가게 될것을 알수 있겠소?≫
