Description
Israelite captives are driven away from a burning fortified city as foreign soldiers stand guard with spear, bow, shield, and siege engines. Smoke rises from breached walls and towers, while grieving families, elders, mothers, and children leave their homeland in sorrow. The scene portrays the fall of Jerusalem and the deportation of Judah under Babylonian conquest, when the temple treasures were taken and the survivors were carried into exile. In biblical context, this judgment fulfilled the warnings spoken by the prophets: covenant unfaithfulness brought devastation, yet the exile also preserved a remnant through whom God would later restore His people. This artwork serves teaching on the Old Testament exile, prophetic warning, repentance, judgment, lament, and the faithfulness of God amid national collapse.
