1 Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.2 And as soon as Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from Egypt.3 And they sent and called him, and Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came and said to Rehoboam,4 “Your father made our yoke heavy. Now therefore lighten the hard service of your father and his heavy yoke on us, and we will serve you.”5 He said to them, “Go away for three days, then come again to me.” So the people went away.6 Then King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he was yet alive, saying, “How do you advise me to answer this people?”7 And they said to him, “If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.”8 But he abandoned the counsel that the old men gave him and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him.9 And he said to them, “What do you advise that we answer this people who have said to me, ‘Lighten the yoke that your father put on us’?”10 And the young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Thus shall you speak to this people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us,’ thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father's thighs.11 And now, whereas my father laid on you a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’”12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king said, “Come to me again the third day.”13 And the king answered the people harshly, and forsaking the counsel that the old men had given him,14 he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.”15 So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfill his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.16 And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, “What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David.” So Israel went to their tents.17 But Rehoboam reigned over the people of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah.18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was taskmaster over the forced labor, and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And King Rehoboam hurried to mount his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.20 And when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. There was none that followed the house of David but the tribe of Judah only.21 When Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, 180,000 chosen warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.22 But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God:23 “Say to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people,24 ‘Thus says the LORD, You shall not go up or fight against your relatives the people of Israel. Every man return to his home, for this thing is from me.’” So they listened to the word of the LORD and went home again, according to the word of the LORD.25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim and lived there. And he went out from there and built Penuel.26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will turn back to the house of David.27 If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the temple of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”28 So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people, “You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”29 And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.30 Then this thing became a sin, for the people went as far as Dan to be before one.31 He also made temples on high places and appointed priests from among all the people, who were not of the Levites.32 And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he made. And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.33 He went up to the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month that he had devised from his own heart. And he instituted a feast for the people of Israel and went up to the altar to make offerings.
Amos 7
1 주 여호와께서는 나에게 이런 광경을 보여주셨다. 왕에게 바칠 보리를 벤 다음 두번째 보리가 막 자랄무렵인데2 메뚜기가 떼를 지어오더니 땅의 푸른 풀을 모조리 갉아먹는것이였다. 이것을 보며 빌었다. ≪여호와 나의 주님, 야곱은 약할대로 약해졌습니다. 이 이상 더 견디여낼것 같지 않습니다.3 용서해주십시오.≫ 여호와께서는 ≪그만해두겠다.≫하시면서 당신의 뜻을 돌이키셨다.4 다음으로 주 여호와께서 나에게 보여주신 광경은 이런것이였다. 여호와께서 그 많은 지하수를 모조리 말리시고 온 땅을 태우시려고 거센 불길을 일으키셨다.5 이것을 보고 나는 빌었다. ≪여호와 나의 주님, 제발 멈추어주십시오. 야곱은 약할대로 약해졌습니다. 이 이상 더 견뎌낼것 같지 않습니다.≫6 여호와께서 ≪이것도 그만해두겠다.≫하시면서 당신의 뜻을 돌이키셨다.7 여호와께서 나에게 다시 보여주신 광경은 이런것이였다. 누군가 돌담옆에다 다림줄을 대여보고있었다.8 그때 여호와께서 나에게 물으셨다. ≪아모스야, 무엇이 보이느냐.≫ 내가 다림줄이 보인다고 대답하자, 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. ≪나 이제 다림줄을 내 백성 이스라엘 한가운데 드리웠다. 더 이상 이스라엘을 용서할수 없다.9 이삭의 산당은 쑥밭이 되고 이스라엘의 성소들은 페허가 되리라. 나는 칼을 들어 여로보암의 나라를 치리라.≫10 벧엘의 제사장 아마시야가 이스라엘왕 여로보암에게 사람을 보내 보고하였다. ≪아모스라는자가 우리 이스라엘 한가운데 들어와 임금님께 반란을 일으키려고 합니다. 그자는 이 나라를 망칠소리만하고있습니다.11 임금님께서는 칼에 맞아 돌아가시겠고 이스라엘백성은 사로잡혀 포로의 신세가 되여 이 땅을 떠나리라고 떠들어댑니다.≫12 그리고나서 아마시야는 아모스에게 말하였다. ≪이 선견자야, 당장 여기를 떠나 유대나라로 사라져라. 거기 가서나 예언자노릇을 하며 밥을 빌어먹어라.13 다시는 하나님을 팔아 벧엘에서 입을 열지 말아라. 여기는 왕의 성소요, 왕실성전이다.≫14 아모스가 아마시야에게 대답했다. ≪나는 본시 예언자가 아니다. 예언자의 무리에 어울린적도 없는 사람이다. 나는 목자요, 돌무화과를 가꾸는 농부다.15 나는 양떼를 몰고 다니다가 여호와께 잡힌 사람이다. 당신의 백성 이스라엘에게 가서 말을 전하라고 하시는 여호와의 분부를 받고 왔을뿐이다.16 그러니 너는 이제 여호와의 말씀을 들어라. 너는 나더러 하나님을 팔아 너희 이스라엘백성과 이삭의 가문을 치지 말라고 하지만17 바로 그때문에 여호와께서는 이렇게 말씀하신다. ＜네 안해는 바로 이 성읍에서 몸을 팔고 네 아들딸은 칼에 맞아쓰러지며 네 농토는 남이 측량하여 나누어가지고 이스라엘백성은 사로잡혀 고국을 등지고 떠나가게 되리라.＞≫
